Houston - Global Gates - Cancelled
COVID-19 Update:
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and conversations with Global Gates, we have come to the sad decision to cancel short-term trips for Summer 2021. We are working, hoping, and praying for the day to come soon to be able to send out short-term trip teams safely! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to the Short-Term Trips Manager, Robin Ten Eyck.
Vision:
The mission of the Houston Global Gates team in Houston is to see gospel transformation of the world’s most unevangelized people groups who have come to global gateway cities, and through them reach their communities around the world. If you'd like to learn more, check out the Global Gates Website. "Join the Texas Global Gates team in sharing the Gospel with Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Sikhs in Houston. Spend 1-2 hours in a Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, and Buddhist temple/mosque learning how to effectively communicate the Gospel. Spend time in a 3-day Bible and Qur’an or Veda study with a small group of Muslims or Hindus. Eat a meal at a Sikh temple. Learn an Indian folk dance or play cricket. Door to door visitation. Lots of opportunities for sharing your story and the Gospel."
What to Expect:
Learning
The team will spend time learning about the different cultures the Global Gates teams interacts with and how the Gospel bridges to each culture. Through opportunities like visiting a local mosque (Islam) or temple (Buddhist or Hindu) the team will learn bridges with gospel strategies and methods. As team members are learning from and engaging with others, team members should have a heart posture of humility and remember that culture does not make people, people make the culture.
Engagement
The team will have various opportunities to meet and have spiritual conversations (safely) with others. Some of these include, eating at local international restaurants, going to the markets and shops, hosting outdoor activities at the apartment complex where the team works and lives.
Typical Daily Activities:
The schedule may change, so it's important to be flexible.
- Training: The time will entail morning training time where you will worship and train for effective outreach.
- Outreach: Often, you will break up into smaller groups (maybe 2 or 3) to go into the community together.
- Meals: For meals, it is encouraged that groups also eat in the restaurants of the people groups Global Gates works with and utilize the meal time to make new friends and share the gospel with restaurant workers.
- Debrief: You will debrief each days activities the next day at the large group meeting. Teams will also meet together in the evening to pray for people met during the day and celebrate the work God did through their team.
Logistics:
- Teams will drive from Austin to Houston
Budget:
- Everything you need for your trip is included in the trip cost, which can be viewed here. These amounts are based on preparation costs and costs given to us by the field partner.

Vision and Foundations Required
"The first question that must be answered in undertaking such a great task as world evangelization is, why?. Why send out the workers, why spend the money, why involve the churches, why do it at all? Without a solid understanding of why these things are done in the first place, credible and effective methods and strategies cannot be developed." - Guide from Global Gates.
The team will spend some time learning and discussing the "why" of evangelism while also learning about the people groups the team works with.

Support Raising Training
In this training, you will be equipped with vision, resources, and practical tools in how to support raise for your short-term trip. While you are not required to support raise for this trip, it is highly encouraged as it allows you to invite other people into your mission and can be a faith-growing experience.
Apr 11 2021
3:00 PM - 5:30 PM CDT
Spiritual Preparation Required
"The following are some key resources to assist you in the months and weeks leading up to your trip that will help you prepare spiritually to be used by God. Amazingly, many teams spend weeks planning logistics and travel details but little or no time preparing spiritually, and then are amazed when they find God's voice unclear. Ministry among least-reached people groups often requires a refinement or even a redefinition of what we might think missions and mission trips are about". - Global Gates Training Guide.
This training will be focused on learning how to be prepared spiritually for the trip.
Apr 25 2021
3:00 PM - 5:30 PM CDT
My Story and His Story Required
"As we connect with people, we begin by hearing their story. This helps us understand what they believe and what they are trusting in for salvation. Often, a very effective bridge to the gospel is sharing our story, how we came to know Christ and have our sins forgiven. By sharing our story, we open up the opportunity to share Jesus' story, the gospel. Only by hearing the gospel do people have hope of having their sins forgiven. By observing how they respond to the gospel, we learn the condition of their heart, and if they have been prepared to receive Christ. Our job is not to save people, but to expose them to the power of the Gospel so that the Holy Sprit can convict them of sin and show them the way to salvation". - Global Gates Training Guide
In this training you will be equipped with how to share your story and connect it to the Gospel.

Religious Beliefs and Culture Tips Required
"Religion is very important to most people of the world. It is at the center of life, especially for people who have left their homelands and now find themselves in a Global City. As followers of Christ, we need to know about the lives and religion of those we seek to introduce to Jesus. This helps us share Christ in a way that is non-offensive and understandable. Paul did this when he spoke in Athens (Acts 17). His knowledge of the Athenian beliefs and culture allowed him to present the gospel in a way that 'made sense' to his listeners. Our goal is the same". - Global Gates Training Guide
In this training you will learn more about the different religions and cultures the team interacts with.
