Vision

What is the Goal of the Trip?

The team will go out into the community to start conversations with people and explore if they are spiritually open. And if they are, getting to have gospel conversations and read the bible together.

How Does The Trip Serve the Ministry Partner?

It’s strategic to have a short-term trip team go out and find people in common areas to have spiritual conversations and then connect any interested people to the ministry partner to do follow up long-term. Then the people who the team has good conversations with can be passed off to the ministry partner’s team to follow up with. This is helpful because short-term teams allow for the ministry partner to focus on those who are spiritually open while short-term team members can be a part of sifting who the Lord might be working in.

Multiple movements worldwide were started from short-term teams. Short-term trip members can help the ministry partner identify non-believers who are spiritually interested and also potential local partners.

What Heart Posture is Needed for the Trip?

As team members are learning from and engaging with others, team members should have a heart posture of humility and remember that culture does not make people, people make the culture. You are part of the long-term team and are expected to participate in all their team-wide activities, events, fasts, meals, prayer meetings, work meetings, etc. Be ready to be flexible, as activities are often subject to change due to various factors (e.g. last minute invite to someone’s home).

Other expectations include:

  • In light of our value to hear and obey the Holy Spirit, we expect all team members to spend individual time in the Word and prayer outside of group prayer meetings. This may sound far too obvious, but this can be a hard discipline to carry out, especially when on a village trip. We can’t emphasize enough the need to daily abide in the Lord!
  • Come ready and eager to learn, as life and ministry here are most likely different from what you’re accustomed to.
  • Be aware of your personal needs to maintain spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically health. If you need something, ask.

What to Expect

What Does Time with the Ministry Partner Look Like?

  • The team will meet with the ministry partner in the mornings for prayer, training, and debriefing the previous days.
  • The ministry partner will do an initial orientation and take the team out to outreach areas to model spiritual conversations in the beginning of the trip.
  • The team hosts a house church once a week in the evening that the team will be a part of.

What’s a Typical Day Look Like?

  • Prayer walking and sharing in strategic target areas that the ministry partner is already working in with locals to find people of peace (Luke 10:5-6).
  • Training will be held in the morning and then will have lunch and dinner in parts of the city and do outreach around those areas.

What are Accommodations Like?

  • The team would stay in a hotel about 30 minutes away from where the team lives.
  • The hotel would have AC in the rooms.

What’s the Location Like?

  • Weather: Summers in the city are hot.
  • Transportation: The ministry partner lives in the city. Teams will primarily use ubers to get around the city.
  • AC: It is very uncommon to have central AC in any buildings so most buildings in the city do not have AC or if they do, they are room units that are not as strong as the AC people from Austin are used to.
  • Flights: Traveling usually takes 2 layovers. Flights leave in the evening on Thursday May 21.
  • Food: The ministry partner lives in a city with lots of food options so food allergies are easy to accommodate.
  • Language: Many people in the city speak English.

Meetings

Feb 22 2026

3:00 PM - 5:30 PM CST

Abiding Training Required

St. John Campus

We go on short-term trips because we want to see God’s kingdom furthered. While most short-term trip participants are blessed by the experience, we do not primarily go to be filled up, but to pour out to others. Scripture consistently paints a correlation between spiritual health and our ability to be effective in ministry to the world, so we believe consistently seeking to abide in Christ is crucial to effectiveness for short-term trips.

Mar 8 2026

3:00 PM - 5:30 PM CDT

Support Raising Training (Optional)

St. John Campus

In this training, we will train you on why we engage in support raising, how to raise support, and how to support each other throughout the support-raising process. We encourage you even if you have the financial means to pay for this trip to enter into support raising as it brings opportunity for those who aren’t going to be a part of what God is doing as well as getting to see God’s provision and faithfulness.

If you have previously been through our support raising training, then you do not need to attend this training.

Mar 29 2026

3:00 PM - 5:30 PM CDT

Ministry Focus Training Required

St. John Campus

In this training, we will spend time going in depth over the why and how your team will be engaging in ministry. So if you are doing prayer walking or evangelism, we’ll be spending most of the time going over prayer walking and how to have gospel conversations. If you are doing a kids care trip, we will spend time going over and planning the curriculum.

Apr 19 2026

3:00 PM - 5:30 PM CDT

Culture Training and Ministry Practice Training Required

St. John Campus

We want to see the gospel go forth while also going into the host culture as learners. Ministry Partners provide resources for us that will help teams share the gospel effectively in their specific context.
It’s important to have an understanding of the culture that the team is about to enter. We want to prepare teams well to mitigate issues caused by cultural differences and to respect the host culture.
